In September 2015 Red Oaks was offered the opportunity to participate in the Early Intervention Project (run by the British Dyslexia Association) as a pilot school and we decided to go for the Bronze, Silver and Gold awards.

During the project we worked to raise the profile of phonics interventions, specific literacy difficulties and dyslexia awareness.

We also worked with a cluster of schools in Bristol and delivered training to them.

After our verification in February we were told that we were a Gold standard school and that our evidence and practice was exemplary!

This week is Dyslexia Awareness Week.

In assembly today we have been thinking about ways of overcoming barriers that get in the way of our learning.

We think that we should persevere and keep reaching for the stars, even when we find it tricky, just like these successful people have!

The staff received a training update in preparation for our Dyslexia Friendly Schools Re-verification in July. The staff were thinking about what it is like for some of our children at school who find literacy challenging. They were also finding out what strategies and resources they could use to help make our children’s learning journey more accessible.
