Mental Health & Wellbeing

🌿 Our Approach to Wellbeing

At Red Oaks, we place children’s wellbeing at the centre of school life. We believe that when children feel safe, supported and happy, they are able to thrive both emotionally and academically. Our whole-school approach focuses on building positive relationships, promoting resilience and ensuring every child knows they are valued.

❤️ Creating a Safe and Nurturing Environment

We are committed to creating a caring and inclusive atmosphere where children feel secure and respected. Our staff work hard to build trusting relationships so that children feel confident to share their thoughts and feelings, knowing they will be listened to and supported.

🧠 Promoting Positive Mental Health

Through our curriculum and daily practice, we help children understand their emotions and develop healthy coping strategies. Pupils learn about resilience, self-esteem and emotional regulation, equipping them with skills to manage challenges both in and out of school.

🤝 Supporting Individual Needs

We recognise that every child is unique. Our staff carefully monitor pupils’ wellbeing and respond quickly when support is needed, ensuring that appropriate strategies and interventions are in place to meet individual needs.

🌈 ELSA and Targeted Interventions

We offer Emotional Literacy Support (ELSA) and a range of targeted interventions to support children who may need additional help. These sessions provide a safe space for children to explore their feelings, build confidence and develop positive coping skills.

🏫 Wellbeing in the Classroom

Wellbeing is woven into everyday classroom practice. Teachers use consistent routines, positive relationships and supportive environments to help children feel calm, settled and ready to learn.

🗣️ Pupil Voice and Emotional Expression

We encourage children to express their thoughts and feelings and to have a voice in school life. Opportunities such as class discussions, check-ins and pupil groups help children feel listened to and valued.

👨👩👧👦 Working in Partnership with Families

We work closely with parents and carers to support children’s wellbeing. Open communication is key, and we are always here to listen, offer guidance and work together to achieve the best outcomes for every child.

🔗 Multi-Agency Support and Early Help

Where additional support is needed, we work alongside external agencies to provide the right help at the right time. This may include Early Help, health services and other professionals, ensuring a coordinated and supportive approach for families.

 Safeguarding and Wellbeing

Safeguarding underpins all aspects of wellbeing at Red Oaks. We are committed to keeping children safe and ensuring that any concerns are responded to quickly and appropriately, with the child’s best interests at the heart of all decisions.

📚 Support for Parents and Carers

We provide information, guidance and signposting to help families support their child’s wellbeing at home. From advice on routines and emotional support to links with external services, we aim to empower families with practical help.

🌟 Building Resilience and Life Skills

We help children develop the confidence and resilience they need to face life’s challenges. By encouraging independence, problem-solving and a growth mindset, we prepare our pupils for successful transitions and future experiences.

💛 A Caring Community

At Red Oaks, we are proud to be a caring and supportive community where every child matters. We know that strong relationships, open communication and a sense of belonging make a real difference to children’s wellbeing. If you ever have a concern about your child, please do not hesitate to get in touch — we are always here to listen, support and work alongside you. Together, we can ensure that every child feels happy, confident and ready to thrive.
